Winter bird survey season commences shortly

The winter bird survey season will commence in early October so please contact us now if you require any winter bird survey work completed during the forthcoming season. ECOFACT is the leading independent provider of bird surveys in Ireland and specialise in undertaking assessments like this for proposed and operational wind energy projects.  Projects we completed last season included extensive winter bird surveys for Cloghan Wind Farm and Seven Hills Wind Farm in the Irish Midlands. Both of these projects now have full planning permission on the basis of our winter bird survey work, Ornithological Impact Assessments, and Natura Impact Assessments.  We deliver on even the most controversial and complex of projects. We are Ireland’s leading ecology team and your first choice environmental partner.

Winter bird surveys are required where there is a possibility of impacts on wintering flocks of birds (often migratory species) or on the wintering habitats of bird species of conservation importance. The information gained from our bird surveys is used to inform the Ecology Chapters of Environmental Impact Statement, and also (as relevant) Natura Impact Statements. We also provide a range of pre and post construction ornithological motoring services and can offer novel approaches including avian radar monitoring and aerial surveys. We are experts in the provision of collision risk modelling and mitigation measures to reduce this risk to non-significant levels on your wind energy project.

Winter bird surveys need to be undertaken throughout the winter months, from early October until the end of March. The methodology we use generally differs from site to site but usually involves a combination of vantage point watches, walkover transects surveys and qualitative approaches such as windshield surveys. We always use standard and NPWS/NIEA approved methodologies.
