ECOFACT are the Project Ecologists for the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin road scheme working directly for Sligo County Council. The proposed scheme consists of 12km of 2 + 1 roadway through Greenfield site and 2.5km of ‘retrofitting’ on existing road. The scheme extends from N4/N17 roundabout at Collooney to an area south of Castlebaldwin. The new road will feature roundabouts at Cloonamahon and Castlebaldwin and a grade separated junction at the Ballymote Road. The scheme will go to planning in the autumn of 2013.

We are currently finalising the Ecology (Terrestrial & Aquatic) and Natura Impact Statement for this scheme. Over the past three months we have updated the ecology surveys for this scheme, including undertaking a bat activity survey along the entire proposed route. We also undertook surveys for breeding birds, marsh fritillary butterflies, whorl snails and aquatic species such as white-clawed crayfish. A new wide band habitat map for the entire proposed CPO area was also prepared.
